On June 21st, 2015, the Austin Pond Society held its post Pond Tour meeting at the usual place, the Zilker Botanical Gardens Meeting Room in Austin.
Following the usual format, the first half an hour is to meet and greet and if you’re in the mood, to eat some of the delicious food prepared by Laura and her husband, Stefan who tonight, was filling in for both of them. We were served a meal of rice and Cuban pulled pork followed by desert brought by the members. Delicious as usual.
At 7:00 pm, Jeannie, our President brought the meeting to order and Glen started the slide show of the pictures that he had taken and put together of the Pond Tour. This year, the format was a little different and he stopped the slides after every pond so that the owners, several of whom were in attendance, could talk about their experience. BJ and Jeannie filled in for those owners who had not made it to the meeting. There were a lot of interesting comments and most owners agreed that the guests behaved very well and were so grateful that the owners had opened up their ponds and gardens.
Following the slide show, Jeannie took over the business part of the meeting by making a few announcements and a call for help to clean out some more ponds at Zilker Gardens. One of the items that she discussed was the formation of a 4 person committee to recommend new people to serve on the Board. If you are interested in serving in any of the positions, please contact Jeannie at firstname.lastname@example.org She also announced that both Pond-Vacs are at her house and can be rented from there. Following the very short business meeting there was a brief presentation ceremony when yours truly received the Koi Person of the Year Award for 2015. I was very grateful to receive it and to be recognized by my fellow enthusiasts although in my mind, there are a couple of more deserving people than me.
With the business out-of-the-way the meeting came to a close. The next one is on Monday, July 20 starting at the usual time of 6:30 pm and at the usual place, Zilker Botanical Gardens Meeting Room in Austin. All are welcome including guests and the speaker will be Dale Pliml of Leaf Garden Supply. He will be talking about general pond problems so bring your questions and we will see you there.
