CURRENT NEWS EVENTS
Members, things are changing up in the Austin Pond Society this year. The board met and decided we will not have a Public Pond Tour this year due to the lack of a Tour Director. We do have two volunteers that are very excited to run next years tour. A lot of discussion are underway of what we would like to see this year instead of the Public Pond Tour. If anyone has any ideas and would like something different, please contact Jeannie our President with your thoughts.
Jeannie will talk about this at the meeting on Monday and even if you miss the meeting but have some ideas, please contact Jeannie, our President with your ideas.
With the unfortunate demise of Keith Neuse and consequent withdrawal of Rodney Lewis, his partner, two new people have stepped up to take over the empty positions, Nancy Hall will be Publicity and Rebecca Brewington as Membership. Julie Smith, who had originally planned on stepping down, will be returning to our Board as Secretary. They will need to be approved by a vote when they are presented to the Members at this upcoming meeting. Thank you Julie, Nancy and Rebecca for stepping up. We are always looking for great volunteers.
MAYFIELD PARK PROJECT
The Mayfield Park project is getting ready to start and several volunteers will be needed to remove the plants, fish and rocks prior to the City to fully repair and waterproof two of the ponds and then to return them back to the ponds after the repairs. Many of the plants will need to be re-potted so this is a great opportunity to learn how to do this. Please contact Jeannie, our President to volunteer and for more information. Dates and times will be sent out with the Stream and posted on our website, face book and meetup.
The Austin Pond Society has been mentioned in the West Austin Neighborhood Group newsletter for the work we are doing on the Mayfield Park Ponds.
ZILKER BOTANICAL GARDENS – FRONT POND
It’s almost time to clean and repot the plants in the APS Pond in the car park in front of the main Meeting Room Building. If you would like to work with experts Darren Bayhi and Glen Hubenthal to learn more about re-potting, volunteer to help them in this upcoming event. Dates and times to follow.
Austin Pond Society Meeting – January 2018
So starts a New Year for the Austin Pond Society. What will it bring, I wonder? We usually follow the same pattern every year. All of our meetings are set up to incorporate different things and we pretty much stick to the same items year after year. The Speaker that Barb Lenhardt, our Programs and Special Events Board Member had originally set up for this meeting had to withdraw at the last minute. This meant that we had to improvise which, as it turned out was no problem as we spent nearly all of the meeting discussing our lack of a Pond Tour Director and what to do instead.Use the link below to read more of this blog.

Austin Pond Society and Mayfield Park
The City has given the go ahead to the Mayfield Park Ponds Project and will be starting very soon. Jeannie, our President is looking for a few able bodied pond enthusiasts to help with catching the fish and lifting the existing plants, lilies and rocks out of the two ponds that are going to be renovated. The City will then in turn, repair the ponds to prevent them from leaking and upon completion, the plants etc will be returned to the ponds. This is a great opportunity to learn more about ponding on a bit larger scale but the knowledge can be applied to any sized pond
