Aquatic Features installed my pond last Spring (2003); unfortunately the same species of algae was introduced via an asparagus plant that they installed -- within weeks, the "hair moss" had overtaken the pond. Following numerous calls, Aquatic Features made a return trip and attempted to sell me a maintenance plan ($150/month) -- after investing over $10k in a "maintenance free" pond, you can imagine my reaction.
They added a herbicide cocktail to address the spread of the hair moss -- the mixture was harmless to the fish and largely ineffective in treating the moss.
Frustrated, I have resorted to harvesting the moss using a steel wire brush commonly used to clean BBQ grills -- while time consuming, it is more effective than other means.
With the arrival of spring, I am contemplating having the pond drained and professionally cleaned/sterilized -- probably won't use Aquatic Features again.
