There are other ways to get rid of algae without closing down your pond. Here are a few:
* UV light (for suspended algae)
* Liquid barley or barley pellets
* Reduced feeding of the fish
* Increased filtration
* More shade (plants on the surface of the pond, shade sail, arbor, etc.)
* Hire a maintenance service to clean the pond for you
I always hate to see anyone close down a pond.
