Some fine algea is a normal part of owning a pond. As spring appraches, your ECO system needs to be able to remove the nutrients in the water, which algea does very well. The fact you are seeing algea is actually a positive sign (albeit not always sightly).
String (hair) algea is pretty easy to remove once a large enough colony has taken hold. Simply stick a small rod (like those green plant support stakes from Home Depot) into the growth and twirl the rod. The algea will simply roll up on the rod. When you have everything up, slide the goop off into your yard as fertilizer. Good luck.....
