I have a 2400 gallon pond that is 6 years old and 30" deep. In past summers the water has always been crystal clear, except this year. I can see maybe 18' down. I use a home made bio filter that has always done the job. I will be the first to admit I am over populated with 7 large koi and approximately 60 5-6" goldfish. Until this year I also had maybe 100 minnows, however I trapped them and now have none. My question is....did the minnows contribute to cleaning the pond and help make my water clear or am I just simply over populated? There have been no other changes in my pond.
