Koi don't do well at all in an aquarium. As a general guideline, koi need 250 gallons each to thrive and grow. They also need a LOT of filtration.

Koi are a VERY messy fish -- you will have a constant battle with water quality in an aquarium, which will be a pain for you and a potential health problem for the fish. Plus, frequent water changes are stressful on both of you.

You're two most viable choices are to keep the aquarium and put tropical fish in it, or build a suitable pond (large enough, deep enough, and well filtered) for the koi. I'm sorry to be so negative, but that's an unfortunate reality of koi.
